Lost Art

Beauvais Cathedral

There were times when to draw an architectural subject was the only option. With the possibility of collapse being so great in early examples of monumental architecture with expansive open interiors, a drawing would have been the only way to eternalize the original design if its plans were lost.

I'm currently drawing the interior of Beauvais Cathedral - started in 1225 - making use of perspectival systems which were not even developed until after this building's first collapse. Have changes been made to a positive effect? How are you even going to know with my elementary drawing skills?

BikeBikeBikeParty

I made this flyer, and have asked for and received many good criticisms. Things like font choice, text alignment, colour, subject, and spacing have all been addressed. The intellectual exercise of debating these seemingly inconsequential elements can be quite enjoyable. While I'm not involved with organizing this party, I'm happy to have been able to contribute something useful which I am also proud of.

Sam, Kootenay Kat

Sam doesn't really like it when someone flatulates in his general direction.

Proj-B Pownage

Proj-B cleaned in the Fixie/Courier events at yesterday's final night of the Six Days of Burnaby. Chalk up one first place race finish for both Lyle and myself, as well as Nick's first velodrome experience, "realizing just how fucking steep it was, as top international pros are thundering above." Brandon shot this photo of my mid-race gang sign hoonery.

Something about real jobs

Today I bring you some information on linseed oil, courtesy of the wiki: "[i]t is a traditional finish for gun stocks, but a very fine finish may require months to obtain." Wow, just riveting. In the next couple of days, I am buying either flax bread or flax bagels - or maybe both.

I said I wasn't going to cut my beard until 2008, and I succeeded. It was over four and a half months of beard growth, which I whittled down for volume last night. Pointy! I wonder if I'm going to keep this thing going in Italy. This weekend I mentioned a similarity between it and the sculpture I'll be seeing.

Mandarin oranges are nature's way of saying "it's winter, protect yo' self from the scurvy." I must not be the only one who enjoys peeling an orange. These flower-shaped peels are a throwback to angiosperm plants for evolving fruit.

That image looks significantly better than the colour version. Now I question, on this mostly-webcam blog: was there a surge in the popularity of poor quality black-and-white film cameras when Kodak first started up? I actually won an award for my English 100 term paper on this very topic; maybe I should read my own work.

Stuck in Bed

I've been sick and in bed for 20 hours now, and am about to try to eat some food.
